Lip & Tongue Tie

Functional Assessments

Tongue and lip ties can impact breast feeding and bottle feeding in infants, as well as feeding, swallowing and speech in toddlers, children, and adults.

Identification and diagnosis of tethered oral tissues requires more than just visual inspection of the oral frena. A detailed and comprehensive assessment of function needs to be completed. Through a functional assessment, a collaborative treatment plan can be developed.

While surgical release is often utilized, it is only one piece of the treatment plan. Functional outcomes improve when support from a trained therapist surrounds surgical release.
